3.2 The body’s pH regulatory mechanisms

To regulate pH of the body fluids you are provided with three mechanisms that work together at all times to regulate pH. These are:

• The chemical buffer systems.
• The respiratory regulation of CO₂ .
• The renal reabsorption, secretion and production of bicarbonate (HCO₃^–)
